New Blog Design

After having the same theme for quite a while, I finally got around to changing it in favor of a more toned-down theme. I will probably still edit it more soon but updated it like this for now. The logo uses Adobe Nueva Std, one of my favorite serif fonts. Blog and the background text is in the font Olho de Boi. I also updated the icon to match.

Photoshop Cat

This is a cat I made on our Mac G4 about a month ago, in Photoshop 6.0. It was a pretty simple design, using basic shapes, with the shading done using the dodge and burn tools.

Making a Custom Photoshop Brush

Today I figured out how to make a Photoshop brush out of a custom picture. I used an old Hoppie picture that I came across in my folder. Here's how:

1) Select the part of the picture you want to use. Dark parts will be more opaque, light parts will be more transparent. Use black to create a completely opaque brush.
2) Go to Edit » Define Brush from Selection...
3) Name the brush and save it.
4) Go to "More Options" in the brush tool.
5) Adjust settings the way you want.
6) Change the size to the way you want.
7) Under the brush selection, go to "Save Brush..."
8) Name the brush, save it, and delete the original brush.

Photoshop Ship

I got the idea for this Photoshop creation from studying slave ships and the Middle Passage in History. I haven't figured out what to call it yet...

Gray Area

In 6^th grade, I had my current spanish teacher, Mrs. Terry, for math and science. In science, we did this activity called Environmental Detectives, which was based of this map of the "Gray Area," an old photocopied picture of a town with landmarks such as the Mistersippi River and other parody names.

A couple of days ago, she asked me to color in the map in Photoshop. It was actually harder than it would seem, since the original was a scan instead of solid colors. Using layers and the magic wand tool, I managed to fill it in fully. The reward: really AWESOME chocolate chip cookies.

A New Wall-Eyed Weirdo

Matthew and I made this update to the old Wall-Eyed Weirdos Make The World Go 'Round design and put it on a shirt. The original design was used on a birthday card for Riley, but I decided the wall-eyed weirdos on it were very crude looking, so we revised it. In my opinion, this is the best wall-eyed weirdo picture we have made.

RE: A Fish Taco Shirt!

At Tijmen's request, I made a "beef taquito" picture for the back of the shirt. If the front had the Bow Down to the Almighty caption, then it would say And This One Too on the back. I drew the beef taquito on the back of a spanish paper a while ago, but had not managed to make it on Photoshop until now.

We're probably going to order it on Cafepress.com because it is much less expensive than getting it silkscreened.

A Fish Taco Shirt!

Yann got the idea to make a fish taco shirt, so I made a high-resolution version of the taco picture with some revisions. We're going to order some at Central Coast Silkscreen on Lighthouse Avenue, and give one to Tijmen, Oliver, and others who like tacos.

It will probably have some catch phrase like Bow Down to the Almighty or It Pwns All or something like that, but we haven't decided that yet.

Wall-Eyed Weirdo (in Photoshop!)

Matthew was over today because he missed the bus, so we did homework (a BUNCH of math and some history on pre-civil war slavery) and then made a Photoshop Wall-Eyed Weirdo.

I mainly did this to show him how Photoshop works, but it turned out good enought that I put it online.

Fantasy Landscape

I made this picture in Photoshop with the Dodge and Burn tools for shading, mainly using the paintbrush for creating the actual elements. Fantasy Landscape was inspired by one of the stage-builder places in Super Smash Bros. Brawl, as well as Fantasy Meadows from Kirby Air Ride.

Lobster Lemon

Tijmen and I came up with this idea during P.E. basketball today.
I based it off of this sketch that I did later in the day.

Fixing Fish Tacos

Today I fixed the old fish taco image. It was producing a glitch when viewed in certain programs, like the web browser. Below are the old and new FTs.
In other news, Oliver found out he's a rooster, not a dog, on the Chinese zodiac.

Oceania

Just playing around with Photoshop this morning. I made an underwater scene...the first I have ever done...with some rock fish. I mainly did this scene to try out making custom gradients, like the one I used for the background.

Afrotastic

Just finished making a picture in Photoshop for Yann. His name is Afrotastic, and Yann doodles him in his school planner and other things.

I used dodge and burn to create highlights, as well as a lens flare on his eyes. It was based off of this sketch.
